A dry end to the year

THE region finished 2025 with a dry December, despite Camperdown and Lismore both recording more rainfall throughout the year than the previous year.


Camperdown recorded 48.7mm of rainfall over December, which is down on the total rainfall of December 2024 of 55.1mm.

The figure is also lower than the long-term monthly average of 52.6mm.

December 1 saw the highest daily rainfall recorded in Camperdown, with 22mm hitting the ground over the 24-hour period.

The final rainfall tally for 2025 was 615.7mm, which is an increase from the total rainfall in 2024 at 554.9mm.

Meanwhile, Lismore recorded 25.6mm of rainfall for the month.

The figure is less than half of the 2024 total of 69.8mm and is close to half of the December average of 46.9mm in Lismore.

The highest daily rainfall was recorded on December 22, where 8.8mm hit the ground.

The end total for 2025 was 513.2mm, which surpassed the 2024 rainfall total of 463.9mm.

Derrinallum was the only area to not see an improvement of rainfall on the previous year, falling short of the 2024 total of 495.6mm with an overall total of 484.7mm.

The total rainfall for December in Derrinallum was 11.8mm – significantly below the previous year’s total of 65mm as well as the long-term monthly average of 48.4mm.

Like Lismore, Derrinallum saw its highest daily rainfall on December 1, recording a total of 5mm over 24 hours.
