Earlier in the year the Camperdown Golf Magpies Club was approached by the Camperdown Giants Bowling Club asking Golf Magpies to consult with their members regarding combining the two clubs due to a lack of players in the area.

After many meetings and voting by members of both clubs, it was decided that a merger would be in the best interest of the sport locally.

This merger was officially launched last Sunday with the inaugural annual meeting of the two clubs, attended by 62 members with a further 10 on zoom (and 12 apologies).

At this meeting it was agreed the name of the combined clubs would be the Camperdown Magpies.

The Magpies will continue to use both of the former club’s greens, and (for at least the next two years) will use the colours of the former Golf Magpies.

The newly formed club will be led by Matthew Brewer as president and Steve Lucas as vice-president.

Other positions have been filled by the following:

Junior vice-president Harry Van Someren; secretary Trish Taylor and Pam Atchison; treasurer (committee of management) and Peter James.

Mid-week selectors: Janet Molan, Kel Edwards, Carol Wilson, Fred Salmon, Ian Henderson and Vicki Brebner.

Saturday selectors: Daryl O’Donohue, Gary Body, Craig Skene, Lud Gungl, Luke Wright and Harry Van Someren.

Over 60s selectors: Gerard Broderick, Barney Dickson and Phil Robertson.

Match committee: Fred Salmon, Wayne Henry, James Henry, Ron Cameron, Craig Skene and Stan Adeney.

Tournament committee and monthly triples: Kel Edwards, Stan Adeney, Vicki Brebner, Steve Lucas, Carol Wilson, Matthew Brewer, Barb Boyd and Darren Coverdale.

Delegates: Vicki Brebner and Trish Taylor; press correspondent John Molan.

Social committee: Michael Brebner, Harry Van Someren, David Bateman, John Molan, Les Pearson, Donna Watts and Judy Borthwick.

It was agreed that the club would field three teams in the mid-week competition, with a team in division one, two and three, and five teams in Saturday competition (one team in division one, two teams in division two and one in division three and four).

The new season is expected to start early in October.
