Division three Frogs beaten

WHILE Ecklin’s premier and division two cricket teams didn’t play on week one of the split round, the division three Frogs returned after the break with an 88 run loss to Pomborneit Gold at Pomborneit on Saturday.

Gold skipper Aaron Van Es won the toss and elected to bat, with the home team making 9/212 from their 40 overs.

Kayne Marshall removed both of the Bulls openers, but was only used for two overs, taking 2/9.

In extremely windy conditions at the Pomborneit ground, veteran left arm seamer Lance Finney swung the ball appreciably in the wind and was the best of the Frogs bowlers with 3/20 from seven overs.

New ball bowler Sam Carroll took 2/48 from eight overs, with Troy Logan and Lachlan Blake taking a wicket each.

Ecklin’s run chase was in tatters after crashing to 8/35 in the 14th over.

It was the Frogs number nine, ten and eleven who showed some steel, as the experienced trio of Finney, Kevin Wines and Damien McKenzie made sure Ecklin batted out the overs, finishing on 9/124.

Finney made an unbeaten 35 from 82 balls, Wines hit 23 off 25 while McKenzie was 25 not out from 60 balls.
