Finals approach for bowlers

COBDEN’S division one midweek pennant bowls side shocked Central by defeating them on their home turf and pushing them out of the top four.

Cobden remains in sixth position and with two rounds remaining cannot make the four.

Round 13 was called off on Sunday by the playing group due to the expected high temperatures, leaving Cobden to face second side Camperdown Magpies in the final round.

I.Johnson, J. Canavan, A. Walton and S. Ballagh defeated Ann Scott, Kath Spokes, Bazil Hammond and Loreign Andrews 29-14.

P. Price, A. Gray, A. Tesselaar and N. Gray lost 18-24 to Janelle Rohan, Bert Strampel, Geoff Ovens and Doreen Coverdale.

J. Gray, R. chapman, L. Price and A. Johnson were defeated by T. Roberts, S. Couch, D. Childs and B. Howard 18-31.

Cobden won two rinks and won 69-65.

Division three also had a good win defeating Camperdown Magpies 72-44 and won all three rinks at home.

This has lifted Cobden from sixth to fourth, placing them just below the team they defeated.

Joy Beaton, Paul Dwyer, Evelyn Grayland and Pam Savage won 22-19 over M. Stephens, C. Wilson, R. Skene and K. Banks.

Jill Lynch, Peter Richardson, Ken Lynch and Des Couch won 25-14 from P. James, G. Weller, V. Coverdale and D. Noonan.

Claire Reynolds, Colin Spokes, Leon Carrigan and Colleen Johnson also had a good win 25-11 over N. Weller, T. Spokes, P. Scott and R. Bourke.

They will face fifth placed Central in Colac in the final round and will need the win to maintain their position in the four.

Weekend pennant did not go ahead due to a Total Fire Ban Day being declared. Division two have Cressy (7th) and Colac 2 (3rd) to play in the final two rounds and will need at least one win to stay in the four.

Division three have ladder leaders Colac 3 and second placed Birregurra to play in a tough final two rounds.

Simpson meets Birregurra and Lorne, as Cobden and Simpson continue to swap between third and fourth position.

Division four has a bye and Derrinallum in the last round and are unlikely to be playing finals this season.
