Fowler's newest collaborations set to launch
A SOUTH west artist is preparing to unveil collaborations with two award-winning authors.

Glenormiston-based artist Jess Fowler has spent recent months venturing in to the unknown as she lends her artistic talents to two projects outside her comfort zone.
She paired up with US-based author Sonee Singh to create the illustrations for a new deck of oracle cards titled Daily Divine: Reflections to Connect Within, while also teaming up with former Glenormiston resident Michelle Weitering (who writes under the pseudonym Mickey Martin) to illustrate a new children’s book, mindful Mila..
Both creative projects will be unveiled in a joint launch party on Saturday, March 29 from 10am-12noon at her Terang studio, located at 58 High Street.
The collaboration with Mrs Weitering won’t be the first time the Glenormiston products joined their talents.
As Western District Newspapers previously reported, Mrs Fowler designed the cover art for two of Mrs Weitering’s previous books, Soul Keepers of Glenormiston South and Obsidian Souls.
This, however, will mark the first time Mrs Fowler has set about providing illustration for a children’s book.
“It was a different way of approaching things,” she said.
“It’s a beautiful story about mindfulness, friendship and inclusivity – all the good things we want to install in our little ones.
“I think it’s a really important and beautiful little story which will be great for the kids.
“The titular character, Mila, only existed in Mickey’s mind so I had to read the book and get a feel for what this little girl might look like, her face shape and align the design with the development of the character.
“It was unique trying to create something which can relate to the words, especially for kids who need a correlation which is fairly apparent.”
Mrs Fowler said the illustrations for Daily Divine: Reflections to Connect Within required the arduous task of creating unique designs for all 77 cards in the deck – each of which accompanies a message of reflection.
“Sonee Singh had contacted me to see if we could collaborate on all the illustrations for the deck, so it’s very exciting to have her flying in from America for the launch,” she said.
“It took about four months – there’s 77 illustrations in total, each of which is a collage which has the message of the particular card included in the collage.
“It’s turned out really good.
“At the launch I’m going to have a full backdrop of all the original cards as a nice display so people can see the originals.”
Mrs Fowler said building connections with talented individuals and presenting her artwork on the international stage was “amazing” for an artist living in such a rural community.
“I’m blessed and very excited,” she said.
“It’s overwhelming sometimes to think about how far I’ve come personally as an artist in just a few years’ time.
“It’s such an exciting time and I’m very happy with how things are going, and I’m looking forward to more projects like this in the future.”
Mrs Fowler invited the wider community to come along on launch day to share a glass of bubbly.
