Magpies still flying despite loss
CAMPERDOWN Magpies Bowling Club’s division one Saturday team has bowed out of the grand final race.
The side suffered a two rinks each, 19 shots defeat at the hands of Colac last Saturday at the Colac City Bowling Club.
The final scores saw Colac defeat the Magpies 102-83.
Brad Errock’s rink of Jamie Norton, Darren Coverdale and Greg Teal finished off their great season with a three shot win over Heath McLaren’s rink, 22-19.
Jason Armstrong’s rink of Tom Spokes, Chris Pearson and Jack Paasse just went down to Grant McLaren's rink 21-23.
Matthew Brewer’s rink of Kev Conheady, Barry Atchison and James Henry battled hard all day but went down to Will Collihole’s rink 14-36.
Luke Wright’s rink of David Bateman, Len Searle and Kell Edwards finished off their good season with a 26-24 win over Tim Hassett’s rink.
Although their season has now finished, the division one players can be proud of their achievements.
The amalgamation of the two Camperdown clubs at the start of the season was a huge undertaking and to say that it has gone well would be an understatement.
The players have all worked well together and the future assures the continuation of a strong bowls club for Camperdown Magpies.
The division two team continued its finals quest with a strong all-rinks win over Colac at the Cressy green.
The final score of 117-73 proved that the Magpies are back on track for, hopefully, a grand final berth when they take on Cobden in the preliminary final at Colac City tomorrow.
The Magpies have won both encounters with Cobden this season and will be hoping to make it three in a row tomorrow.
Fred Salmon’s rink of Andrew Anderson, Kevin Russell and Greg Edwards set the tone last Saturday with a 30-15 win over Trevor Nelson’s rink.
Peter Reilly’s rink of Maria Van Someren, Harry Van Someren and Kel Rundle had a 33-18 win over David Moore’s rink.
Michael Brebner’s rink of John Molan, Greg Molan and Keira Johnston completed the whitewash with a 31-20 win over Peter Collihole’s rink.
Division two teams for Saturday at Colac City are:
Fred Salmon (s), Andrew Anderson, Kevin Russell and Greg Edwards.
Paul Richards (s), John Molan, Greg Molan and Keira Johnston.

The Magpies division three team also continued its finals run with a massive 62 shot win over Simpson at the Cobden Bowling Club, winning all rinks in their score of 106-44.
Tom Hose’s rink of Paul Halloran, Janet Molan and Donna Watts defeated Ron Yendall’s rink 22-12.
Ron Absalom’s rink of John Salau, Bert Sloetjes and Noelene Tolland had a 17-12 win over Terry Harris’ rink.
Paul Brebner’s rink of Sam Whytcross, Kerry Henderson and Gerard Broderick had a massive 42-13 win over Bryson Newcombe’s rink.
Darren Page’s rink of Peter James, Rene Wyles and Steve Lucas made sure of the win, defeating Andrea Swayn’s rink 25-7.
They will now play Birregurra in the knockout preliminary final at Colac Lakes tomorrow.
The teams have met twice during the season, with the Magpies winning at home by two shots in round four and Birregurra winning at home by five in round 11 so another close contest is expected tomorrow.

Darren Page (s), Peter James, Rene Wyles and Steve Lucas.
Paul Brebner (s), Sam Whytcross, Kerri Henderson and Gerard Broderick.

Chris Pearson (s), Rene Wyles, Tim Spokes and Elaine Waterfall.
Stan Adeney (s), Noel Brebner, Kerry Henderson and Noelene Tolland.

The manager is Barb Boyd and the bus will leave at 8.15am sharp.
Midweek division one, who have already qualified for the grand final, will now have to wait another week to see if they play Colac City or Winchelsea in the decider.
A very successful second night of the Corporate Challenge was held last Monday night with the winners being Richie’s Supermarket.
The runners-up were Commercial Hotel, with Ray White Real Estate in third place.
The progressive aggregate sees Country Petroleum on 57 followed by Ritchies on 55, Water Boys 53 and Ray White 53.
Good luck to everyone playing for the Magpies over the next week.
