For the second year, an outpost patrol was based in Peterborough thanks to the efforts of Port Campbell Surf Life Saving Club volunteers.

Club captain Darcy Tribe said the Peterborough community were welcoming again this season.

“Local businesses were supportive of the outpost patrol and we thank them for their support,” he said.

Mr Tribe said the Port Campbell Surf Life Saving Club were able to expand on last seasons trail outpost patrol in Peterborough and patrol two weekends this summer.

“Swimming at more remote locations has become more popular post COVID,” he said.

“Sixty-six per cent of drownings in 2022/23 were more than one kilometre away from a surf lifesaving service.

“We want to provide an easy recognisable service, that is the red and yellow flags, that can easily identify the safest swimming location for the Peterborough community and for the high influx of tourists over summer.”

Mr Tribe said the club would like to continue to have a presence in the area in the future weekends and public holidays of the summer school holidays.

“But we require more help from the community by getting community members to complete their bronze medallion,” he said.

“We have a bronze course starting on February 20. Get in touch if you’re interested in helping out.”

For more information about the upcoming bronze medallion course contact Darcy Tribe on 0459 556 153.
