Rainfall remains low

THE year ended with a month of just below average rainfall in Cobden, with 49mm of rain hitting the ground in December 2025, just 5mm short of the long-term average for the month of 54mm.

This brought the yearly total rainfall to 725mm, which is below the long-term average over the same period of 835.6mm.

However, the rainfall in 2025 was well above the annual total of 561.5mm in 2024.

The highest daily total rainfall recorded in December was 19.8mm on December 1.

was 37mm on June 8, when a total of 131.8mm of rain was recorded for the month.

June was also the wettest month of 2025, while January was the driest, seeing only 15.2mm of rain.

The month which saw the most consistent rainfall was September, where it rained every day except for three days.

Heading into bushfire season, more rain will be needed to keep pastures green and communities safe through the rest of the summer period.
