Secretary Leeanne Whitehead said it’s been a long process to get the courts the facelift they need.

“We’re upgrading the netball and tennis courts and it’s been a process for the last four years,” she said.

“We’ve worked on getting all the plans done and seeking financial support and we’ve finally gotten to a point now where we’ve engaged Civilnow to conduct the construction.

“Construction has started and we’ve pulled down fences and they’re ready to go starting this week.

“Basically, we have to gut the two courts and do the whole foundations and everything and then the other end will have a seal over the top.

“There will be new fencing and lighting in time.”

While construction is finally underway, the committee are facing some financial barriers in the way of completion.

“At the moment, with the rising costs of materials, we’ve had to make some necessary alterations,” Mrs Whitehead said.

“There’s currently a shortfall of funds so we’re asking the community if there is anybody that would like to help with the extra funds to make the entire project complete – that would be gratefully accepted.

“We’ve had many contributors, sponsors, partners, philanthropists, local members of the community and users of the facility that have been very generous with their funding of the courts to this point, but to complete the entire project we’re seeking extra funds.

“At this point we will just be doing part of the project but we would love to see it completely finished.

“It’s been a long process and we’ve sought many avenues for funding but I’m sure there are people in the community who would like to see the project finished.”

Mrs Whitehead said as the recreation reserve had a large user base, she was hoping the right person was out there who could lend a hand.

“We cover a vast area of people that actually enjoy the playing facilities, so we need to make it safe for our players to play on – it was deemed unfit for purpose,” she said.

“We’re just trying to get it all done.

“If there’s anyone out there that knows of someone that might be interested in giving us a hand, let us know.”

If anyone wants to discuss the project, they can contact Mrs Whitehead on 0400 558 485 or president treasurer Michael Schulz on 0407 504 374.
