Residents share ideas for C’mite’s future
SCORES of people have taken the opportunity to share their vision for the future of Corangamite Shire last week.

Council hosted two Community Conversation sessions on Wednesday, March 12 for people to provide input to the new Council Plan, Community Vision and other key documents.
About 90 people attended across the two sessions, and council is encouraging more people to contribute via an online survey.
Mayor Kate Makin said it was pleasing to see a strong turnout at the sessions, with people sharing ideas on a wide range of topics.
“It was an informative and positive experience, and we appreciated the opportunity to listen to people who are passionate about living in Corangamite Shire,” she said.
“All these ideas and feedback will guide council decisions and activities over the next four years and beyond.
“We’ve had a good response so far, particularly from over-50s, but we’re keen to hear from younger people, as well as residents from smaller communities.
“Having diverse views will help us plan for the whole community’s needs.”
Cr Makin said key themes were emerging through the consultation.
“People are telling us that they love living in Corangamite Shire, and they want to keep living here at all stages of their life,” she said.
“This could include aged care and seniors housing options, as well as affordable housing for workers.
“People want access to health services, public transport and a variety of businesses and services.
“And they want to protect and enhance our natural environment, tree-lined streets and rural landscapes.”
Council will draw on the forums and survey responses while developing the Council Plan and updated Community Vision.
Responses will also feed into important documents like the Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan, structure plans and a review of the shire’s Local Laws.
“In the coming months we’ll share draft plans for community feedback. I encourage you all to keep an eye out for these and take the chance to comment again,” Cr Makin said.
“Together, we can create a thriving future for Corangamite Shire.”
Residents who were unable to attend the two sessions and wish to contribute are invited to complete the survey online at www.corangamite.vic.gov.au/Conversation2025.
