The slip-on unit – which consists of a water tank, pump, hose reel and controls which can be fitted onto vehicles such as utes – was purchased through BlazeAid’s All Fire Up grants program.

BlazeAid’s All Fired Up initiative provides grants to help farmers and rural communities upgrade or purchase essential fire-fighting equipment, enabling increased resilience during high-risk fire seasons.

Chocolyn CFA secretary Leigh Harry said the new unit will make a meaningful impact on local preparedness.

“In rural areas, minute1 matter,” he said.

“Having this slip-on positioned on-farm ensures we can get water on a fire fast, especially in locations where access can be challenging.

“It’s an invaluable resource for our community.

“This vital piece of equipment will be positioned at the northern end of the brigade’s designated response area, mounted on a private farm ute provided by local landowners.

“Strategically locating the slip-on unit at this end of the district will significantly enhance the brigade’s capability to respond rapidly to fire outbreaks.”

A local landowner agreed to host the new unit, which will allow for an immediate response while CFA tankers are en route to a fire in the response area, reducing the risk of the fire spreading.

Mr Harry said the brigade extended its sincere appreciation to BlazeAid for their support.

“We are incredibly grateful to BlazeAid and their partners for recognising the importance of local firefighting capacity,” he said.

“Their assistance had directly improved our preparedness and out ability to protect lives, livestock and property.”

“The Chocolyn CFA Brigade also acknowledges the local property owners who have committed their vehicle to host the unit, ensuring it remains ready for deployment throughout the season.”
