Why stop at one?

CAMPERDOWN Rotary Club members are calling on residents to volunteer their time in any way they can, even if they are already part of another organisation.

Club secretary Graeme Fischer said the Rotary club members were also involved in other aspects of the community outside of Rotary.

“Jan and Norm MacDonald are part of the Victorian Scottish Union for Clan Donald and are part of the Robert Burns Celtic Festival,” he said.

“When there were the fires up in Skipton, James Carter did chaplaincy work.

“He also does disability work with V/Line – when a new train comes, he’s the one who assesses whether you can get a wheelchair into the train.

“Pat Robertson is the chair of the Bendigo Bank board and the Camperdown-Timboon Rail Trail committee.

“I’m involved with the South West Umpires and cricket, and Richard Robertson over the years has been treasurer in a number of organisations around the town.”

In addition to their volunteering outside of Rotary, members are also kept busy with a variety of activities run by the club such as the monthly Rotary Market in the avenue of Manifold Street.

“We do Adopt A Highway, deliver the bin caddy liners, youth programs and other bits and pieces,” Mr Fischer said.

“We sell showbags with the Corangamite Hockey Club at the Camperdown Show – there’s all these things we do to keep the show going.

“There’s a heap of other groups who do a stack of work as well, such as the Camperdown Pastoral and Agricultural Society.”

Mr Fischer encouraged anyone who had thoughts about volunteering to sign up.

“I think volunteering is rewarding because you meet people, it’s socially good for you and you get the self-satisfaction of helping someone or a group,” he said.
